Update: Roys of Wroxham Hoveton store shut today after fire

Roy's main department store was shut today after a weekend fire.

Fire crews spent nearly four hours tackling a the fire at the shop in the centre of Hoveton, which started just before 1am on Sunday morning.

Director Paul Roy said it was hoped to reopen the department store on Monday.

Roy's other outlets in the village were unaffected.

He said the fire service was called to a small fire which was extinguished.

Back in May 1995 the same building was gutted by a fire which took 10 hours to tackle by shifts of fire crews.

This time fire engines from Wroxham, Sprowston, Stalham, Carrow and North Walsham attended the scene along with the aerial ladder platform and support from Earlham, the water carrier and support from Hethersett.

The Welfare Unit and Support from Attleborough, which provides a shelter and facilities for firefighters on a long call-out also attended.

The fire was extinguished just before 5am using hose reel jets and main jets and a hydrant.

No one was injured in the incident.
