Engineers worked through the night to restore power to homes in Watlington, near King's Lynn following a two-car crash.

Fire crews from King's Lynn and Downham Market were called to the accident at Downham Road, Watlington at just before 5.30pm yesterday.

An electricity pole came down on one of the cars involved in the crash, knocking out electricity in the area, and meaning firefighters had to help release those in the car.

A police spokesman said no-one was injured in the crash.

A spokesman for UK Power Networks said: 'Engineers worked through the night to restore power supplies to customers in the Downham Road area of Watlington after a road traffic accident damaged our low voltage network.

'53 customers were isolated for safety reasons at 5.35pm and a further 9 customers had to be isolated at 6.40pm to enable the safe replacement of the damaged electricity pole. We were able to restore supplies to 45 customers at around 7pm and the final 17 customers at 1am.'
