UPDATE: Plan to save Suffolk crossing patrols rejected

A vote to save crossing patrol staff in Suffolk has been defeated 40 to 22.

The vote was taken as Suffolk County Council debated slashing the posts of 62 lollipop men and women as part of a 43m package of cuts for 2011/12.

Councillors voted against saving the posts after the Liberal opposition proposed an amendment.

The full council budget is still going on.
