A Great Yarmouth man in his 30s has been taken to hospital for assessment following an incident that lasted throughout last night and saw people evacuated from their homes.
Police were called to Nursery Terrace in the town at about 7.40pm last night after concerns were raised about the safety of a man who was believed to be threatening to set fire to himself.
As events unfolded people took to social media to describe armed police and riot vans, together with fire engines arriving on the street.
Officers spoke to the man inside throughout the night and at 9am today he left the property and has been taken to Northgate Hospital for assessment.
During the incident Northgate Street was closed between Beaconsfield Road and Apollo Walk and two families from neighbouring properties were evacuated to ensure their safety.
