A Lowestoft man is due in court tomorrow after he was charged by police with attacking two women during a burglary at a house in the town on Monday.

Alan Harwood, 30, of High Street, has been charged this afternoon with two counts of GBH, one count of aggravating burglary and one offence of producing cannabis.

He is due to appear at Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court tomorrow.

The four allegations relate to an aggravated burglary at Cambridge Road in the early hours on Monday morning in which a mother and daughter suffered serious injuries.

A 47-year-old woman is still in a serious but stable condition at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge after suffering head injuries.

Police had described her injuries as life-threatening and they included a fractured skull.

Her daughter, 28, was discharged from the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston after she was treated for a gash to her head and a broken arm.

Police had been called to the Cambridge Road at 2.40am on Monday when shouting inside was heard. Cash, jewellery and a handbag were stolen.

Harwood was arrested by police on Tuesday after police executed two warrants in Lowestoft. Police were given authorisation to charge him with the four alleged offences after he spent two days in custody.

On Monday police arrested a Lowestoft man aged 36 on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery. He was released on police until October 25, pending further enquiries.
