A POLICE investigation into an alleged incident of sexual assault has been halted after the teenage girl 'retracted her allegation.'
This morning (Friday), part of a popular Lowestoft park was cordoned off by detectives following an allegation of sexual assault on a teenage girl.
Witnesses described how last night they had seen the police helicopter hovering over Carlton Colville, and following this 'an area of Broadwaters Park' in the town was cordoned off.
A police spokesman told The Journal: 'An area of Broadwaters Park, Lowestoft was cordoned off this morning (Friday, October 14), following an allegation of a sexual assault.
'At around 12.20am, police received a report that a 16-year-old girl had been attacked by an unknown man in this area during the previous evening. The inquiry is at its early stages and the girl will be spoken to again this morning to ascertain exactly what took place.'
But, after speaking further to police, the girl 'retracted her allegation' earlier.
