A popular half marathon could be doubled in length next year because of growing demand from runners.

Hanworth half marathon had a turnout of 66 runners on Sunday, with the winner posting a time three minutes faster than the course record.

The run, which took in a circular route including Hanworth Common, Metton, Sustead and back to Hanworth, raised more than 500 towards the maintenance and improvement of Hanworth Memorial Hall.

Organiser Tony Hadlow said: 'The entrants were just about all club runners, from all over the country, including Hampshire and Yorkshire.

'It's a big event for a small village. But it might even be a full marathon next year. People are saying there are not enough marathons.'

This year, North Norfolk Beach Runners helped in the organisation and marshalling of the event which was won by Graham Jenney in 1hr 20min 59sec, ahead of Alan Darby (1:21:26), and Vaughan Roberts 1:22:13.
