A popular Norwich student charity pub crawl has been forced to change its route after pub landlords said it was no longer welcome.

Pimp My Barrow, an annual pub crawl organised by the University of East Anglia’s Students’ Union sees teams of students dress up in costumes and push a wheel barrow around the city - all in aid of The Big C cancer charity.

For the last 11 years, the event has kicked off in the Square at the university, with waves of students heading off to Earlham Park and beyond, visiting a range of pubs in the Golden Triangle area.

However for 2018, the event has been revised due to feedback received from pub landlords on the route.

This year, on Saturday, May 12, things will begin in the Square from 1pm as usual, but instead of embarking on a pub crawl, the rest of the event will take place in Earlham Park.

Subsequently the fundraiser
is being renamed PMB in the Park.

The event description on the UEA SU website says: “It’s back - but bigger and better than before. PMB makes it’s annual return - with a bit less walking and a lot more fun. Raising money for the Big C has never been so good.

“PMB is having a 2018 update. We don’t want to make you walk too far so join us in the square for your favourite party and walk with us to Earlham Park for inflatable games, food and even more fun.”

Commenting on the revised plans for Pimp My Barrow, a spokesman for the UEA Students’ Union said: “Planning the event this year, we got lots of feedback from our partner pubs in the Golden Triangle - many have refocused to become more food-orientated and family friendly, many struggle with large numbers and some have closed.

“So we have taken the decision to keep the best elements of the event without hassling our partners across the city.”

Tickets for the event cost £40 for a team of five people.
