Two Great Yarmouth businesses have gone the extra mile to help Hemsby Independent Lifeboat. As it celebrates its 40th year, Hemsby Lifeboat continues to grow the service and standards, thanks to donations from locals and their supporters.

The lifeboat's plans include an extension to the current lifeboat house as well as continuing to raising funds for their new sea boat.

It's not just about getting new equipment, the service has to raise thousands of pounds each year to keep their sea and Broad boats in the water and maintained to a standard that sees them ready to answer a distress call in minutes.

And it looks like 2016 could be one of their biggest years with four callouts already.

Their launch vehicle was in need of maintenance work to keep it on station and both Kingsway Tyres of Barrack Street, Yarmouth and British Metal Treatments of Battery Road, not only provided services to the lifeboat but donated time and materials.

Crewman Chris Batten is pictured receiving the donations from the two businesses.

Coxswain Daniel Hurd said: 'All the crew were humbled by the generosity of both Kingsway Tyres and British Metal Treatments. My crew, who are all unpaid volunteers, give up much of their time to keep the public safe and it is gratifying to see local businesses willing to support our efforts in this way. So from all at Hensby Lifeboat we say thank you Kingsway Tyres and thank you British Metal Treatments.'
