The annual Kessingland autumn tug-of-war festival attracted a good turnout over the weekend as the last outdoor competition of the season was held once more at the Park Resorts Kessingland Beach Holiday Park.

The contest was run once more by area five of the Tug of War Association, which covers Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Bedfordshire and beyond. And although there were no local sides competing this year, David Ling, chairman of area five group, said: 'It has been good this year. Although the number of teams was slightly down, we will be definitely running the competition again next year and hopefully we can keep it going for our 40th year and beyond.'

With competition taking place in different weight categories over both days, four contests were held on Saturday, with a further four staged yesterday.

Teams were made up of eight competitors, who pull in the various weight categories, from 600kg upwards.

But leading the way all weekend was the team from Raunds, Northamptonshire, who 'won everything' as they eventually lifted all eight winners trophies over the two days.
