Tributes have been paid to a exemplary student whose body was found on the beach below the Hunstanton cliffs.

Lydia Stafford, 19, was remembered by her fellow students and teachers at a College of West Anglia awards ceremony at which she was due to receive a social sciences prize.

A eulogy which was read out at the ceremony, which took place at the Corn Exchange, said: 'Tonight we remember Lydia Stafford as an exemplary student both in her outstanding academic achievements and as a warm, giving individual who is sorely missed by her friends and staff.

'In a short period of time while studying with us, Lydia attained remarkable standards. She won awards and commendations both within College and from external organisations for her work.

'Above all Lydia was a caring person who would be so proud of the achievements of her peers if she were here tonight.

'Lydia has left a big gap in the lives of her many friends and teachers and she will always be remembered for her quiet, calm and sincere personality as well as her academic prowess.'

Lydia, who lived in Congham, was predicted to get A* grades for all of the subjects she studied and was a candidate for Cambridge University.

During her time at the college Lydia had won the Nuffield Bursary as well as places at the Cambridge and UEA summer schools.

An inquest into Lydia's death, which was opened on Monday, June 17, heard that her body was discovered by a member of the public on the beach near to the Hunstanton lighthouse on June 11.
