Travellers who set up camp on Beccles Common this week have left the site.

Around seven caravans moved onto the field next to the children's play area on Monday evening. However they left the site last night.

Beccles town councillor Caroline Topping, along with a retained firefighter from the town and two members of public then got to work clearing up the area, and placing any rubbish left behind in the bins provided by Waveney District Council.

The town council had been working closely with Suffolk Police, the Norfolk and Suffolk Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Liason Service and the district council throughout the week and held regular meetings regarding the issue.

There were also reports this week that travellers were located at Ellough Airfield. However, a spokesman from Suffolk Police said the travellers might have moved on from the airfield to Beccles Common.
