Motorists are being warned that a busy city roundabout will be closed for several days from Wednesday.

The major roadworks in Earlham Road, near to the University of East Anglia and the City Academy Norwich, begin a new phase tomorrow night when the Fiveways roundabout will be closed to all traffic.

The closure is likely to take effect early on Wednesday morning, so tomorrow's evening traffic will not be affected and the first rush hour following the closure will be Wednesday morning.

The roundabout will remain closed until work reconstruction and resurfacing of the carriageway is complete. It is hoped that this will be on the evening of Friday, August 26, but the weather forecast is uncertain and heavy rain could delay completion until Saturday, August 27.

Work on the roundabout is part of a two-week scheme costing 341,000 for reconstruction and resurfacing of the B1108 Earlham Road. Work began near the junction with Wilberforce Road on Monday, August 15.

The road is a main route for people travelling from the city centre and further afield to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, and diversions are in place.

The work is being carried out by Norfolk County Council's environment, transport and development partnership and contractors. The county council apologises for the inconvenience caused during this essential road maintenance.
