Simon Gray, managing director of Credo Asset Finance, talks motor finance in your language.

Welcome to the first of our monthly motor finance columns in which we plan to dispel some myths and misnomers, educate and advise on the sometimes complicated world of car and van finance.

Credo Asset Finance is a local finance broker, based in Norwich, which always aims to offer cost-effective finance matched with unrivalled service and good honest advice in a language you can understand.

With vehicle finance there are so many terms, products, tax implications and options that it's almost impossible to know the best product or option for you. Over the coming months, through case studies and answers to readers' questions, we aim to arm you with more information to help you make a more informed choice when you next come to change your vehicle.

Credo has access to a range of lenders, specifically for vehicle finance, whether for personal or business use.

We offer a more traditional approach to finance, where we do not wholly rely on credit scores and computers to make decisions but, where necessary, look behind the information to get to the facts and make sure those who deserve a good finance deal get it. We do not charge broker fees and offer a fast, local, credible alternative to finance your vehicle. All can be handled over the telephone – in most cases approvals are gained within two hours.

The 'computer says no' age cannot ever be accurate – yes, sometimes it says 'no' and it means 'no' but there are so many examples we see when the computer should say 'yes' but for one reason or another its programmers simply won't let it! There has to be a more human approach to finance, the issues we all come across at one time or another cannot be accurately defined in a finance score card. Maybe a step backwards is the right direction.

We love cars, we love talking about them, we love to advise on them and, most of all, we love to get it right and give our customers a service that is second to none.

So if you don't know your balloon from your bubble then look out for our first in-depth column on Saturday, June 1 and the first Saturday each month after that.

We encourage any readers to email any specific questions to us as we are only too happy to help and advise. Maybe your question will appear in a future column.

Asking costs nothing, failing to get the right deal for you could cost you dear!
