The smell of fresh paint still hangs in the air at the Two Brewers pub in Diss but having reopened just two weeks ago, it is already proving a hit with people in the town.

Simon Musk, who runs the pub along with his partner Kim Evans, used to drink there and knew the potential it had.

Having been a pub on St Nicholas Street since the 17th century, it was a popular drinking spot for many years before it was changed to a restaurant and bar and renamed four years ago.

When Mr Musk bought it his goal was to bring back the traditional drinkers' pub and that meant bringing back the original name.

Mr Musk, who used to own Ruby's Bar in the town, said: 'A lot of people wouldn't come in here because it wasn't called the Two Brewers. Now they've come back and they say it's because of the name. It made sense to bring it back.

'We're really happy with it and we had a lady come in who was born in here and whose nan used to run the pub, and she commended me for changing the name back.'

No food is sold at the Two Brewers, although Mr Musk has said they might decide to start serving traditional bar food in the new year, but there is a range of ales.

These include Adnams and Caledonian as well as lager, ciders and wine. One of the most popular drinks is the coffee flavoured stout by Theakston, with the pub trying to offer people something 'different'.

The 27-year-old said: 'It's a strange feeling to run the pub that I used to drink in, but it's good. We wanted it to be a place for people to be able to drink and actually sit at the bar. People like that we don't do food.

'It means what we thought people wanted is what they wanted, a traditional drinkers' bar.'

The pub has a pool table and there are plans to have a team for both pool and darts and refurbishment to the beer garden and smoking area to host barbecues and live bands.
