The Haven Great Yarmouth Air Show will take place over the weekend of June 16 and 17 and will see the likes of the Red Arrows soaring above the coastline.

The event is expected to attract around 175,000 visitors to the town and organisers are wary of the potential traffic congestion this could cause.

Subsequently, people who live in the town are being asked to walk, cycle or use public transport, while those who live further afield are being encouraged to use the park and ride buses, which will be operating additional services.

Asa Morrison, air show director, said: “It is going to be busy and we are trying to keep as much traffic out of town as possible.

“We are encouraging people to use the park and ride, service buses, trains, or to cycle and walk.”

A traffic management plan will be put in place during the show and a leaflet will be distributed among houses in the area outlining the details.

As part of the plan, Marine Parade will be closed to vehicles from 6pm on Friday 15 until 8am on Monday 18.

Seafront side roads near the display site will also be closed for public safety from 8pm Thursday 14.

Cars parked illegally in the closure areas may risk being towed.

More than 120 concrete blocks will be installed along the seafront in order to assist the road closure.

First Buses will also be increasing the frequency of their X1 and X11 services from Norwich to Great Yarmouth. During Saturday daytime, buses will run every 10 minutes, rather than the usual 15 minutes, and on Sunday the service will run every 15 minutes, rather than the usual 30 minutes.

Larger buses will also be used and in the evening double deckers will be used instead of single deckers.

Greater Anglia will be adding extra train services but have warned passengers that stations and trains will be very busy on both days.
