West Norfolk's Care and Repair has received a Handyperson Service of the Year commendation in the national Foundations Home Improvement Agency Awards.

Established In 2008 by Care and Repair West Norfolk, the scheme was set up to provide a reliable home maintenance service to elderly and vulnerable people in West Norfolk, Breckland and Fenland.

Service manager Keith Mawson said: 'Since the scheme began, we have helped hundreds of people to live independently and safely in their own homes by assisting them with a range of tasks from small general repairs to home security, fire safety work and minor disabled adaptations.

'Feedback from clients has been extremely positive. People welcome the opportunity to call upon a reliable and trustworthy handyperson for whom no job is too small or too much trouble.'

The award was presented by former secretary of state for communities Hazel Blears MP at a special ceremony at the House of Lords on Thursday evening. Collecting the award on behalf of Care and Repair West Norfolk, Brian Long, West Norfolk's cabinet member for environment and community, said: 'This is a marvellous achievement for a service that has been operating for less than three years. It's a real testimony to the hard work and dedication that the team have put into the scheme and we are delighted that their efforts have been recognised nationally.'
