Three women from Norfolk were arrested after a police dog and three officers were injured while attempting to shut down an illegal rave in Lincolnshire.

Lincolnshire Police were called to the rave in Twyford Woods, off the A1 towards Corby Glen at around 11pm on Saturday.

The force said officers came under attack by missiles thrown by about 200 of the 1,000 strong crowd.

One police officer suffered serious injuries, while two other officers have minor injuries, according to the police.

Sixteen people have been arrested including three women aged 18, 20 and 21 from Norfolk.

Police were made aware of the rave by a member of the public who complained about loud noise and anti-social behaviour coming from the woods.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said they seized sound equipment and power generators to put the party to a halt.

They also confirmed that the A1 was briefly closed because of pedestrians on the highway.

Residents took to Twitter to describe the size of the event.

Joey Thomson tweeted: “Literally the biggest illegal rave is going on three miles away from my house, 100’s of police, helicopters the lot.”
