POLICE are seeking witnesses after a shop worker was threatened in an attempted armed robbery at a shop in Lowestoft.

Two men, one armed with a knife, entered the shop - R and D Newsagents in Norwich Road - about 7.15pm last night (Sunday, March 18), threatened a member of staff and demanded cash.

'Two members of staff in the shop at the time were told to lie on the floor and one of the offenders went behind the counter to open the till,' a police spokesman said. 'However the staff resisted and bravely went to fight back and both would-be-robbers fled the store empty-handed.'

Police were called and officers making inquiries into the incident subsequently arrested three men – a 20-year-old, 23-year-old and a 29-year-old – who will be interviewed in connection with the incident.

'Detectives are continuing their investigation and need to speak to anyone who may have been in the area around this time last night or anyone with information about those involved,' the police spokesman added.
