New Victorian-style footway lights have been installed along River Green in Thorpe St Andrew.

The new lights replaced the white flower poles which previously lined Yarmouth Road, and were installed to mark the Queen's coronation.

Thorpe St Andrew Town Council said it timed the installation and switch-on of the new lights to coincide with the Royal Wedding weekend.

Town mayor John Fisher said: 'Replacing the rusting flower poles has been a long-standing aspiration of the Council, and the addition of footway lights demonstrates our commitment to investing in the infrastructure of the town.

'This project is part of the wider improvements to River Green, which includes the previously installed new paths, new trees, centenary garden, proposed tourist space and upcoming hire boat service.'

Events committee chair Sue Lawn said the lights were funded through reductions in street lighting contract costs.
