A callous thief stole £100 from a woman's handbag as she suffered an epileptic fit in a busy city street.

Police have appealed for witnesses - particularly someone who came to the woman's aid - to come forward with information after the incident which happened at 2.30pm on a Saturday during the peak shopping time on St Giles Street, Norwich.

The 35-year-old victim was walking home from the Guildhall area last Saturday when she suffered an epileptic fit.

She was lying on the ground semi-conscious when she heard someone say: “What are you doing in her bag?” A male voice replied “looking for ID”. When the victim got to hospital she realised that £100 was missing from her purse.

A police spokesman said: “This is a callous act, and we would urge anyone who knows anything about this incident to please come forward, particularly the person who appears to have gone to her aid”.
