The organiser of a five-a-side football tournament as part of a Norfolk town's annual festival has spoken of his disappointment the event had to be cancelled due to a lack of teams.

Terry Jermy, who runs Thetford Community Association and co-organised the event with Ricky Bowers, said only two teams had come forward to play in the Thetford World Cup competition when the organisers were hoping to attract between 10 and 12 entrants.

He believed a busy summer schedule of events including the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics had taken a toll on numbers.

'This is something we do every year and it is always popular. I think what we are finding is that people are a bit 'festivalled out' this year with the Jubilee and Olympics. People have made other plans for the Bank Holiday weekend,' Mr Jermy added.

The organisers were hoping to raise 400 for activities for youngsters in the town, but are now hoping to rearrange the tournament for the October half-term.

There was also due to be a car boot sale, stalls and tombola at the event.
