A Thetford rapper is celebrating a move to the big time after Radio One showcased one of his tracks.

Franko Fraize, 26, from Fulmerston Road, Thetford, will be featured on the station's playlist all this week.

He described the track, Watch How I'm Moving, as 'laid back' and said he deliberately steered away from glorifying guns, violence or money.

He said he found out about his playlisting back in December when an email arrived telling him his single would be played by Radio One DJs including Fearne Cotton and Scott Mills.

He said: 'The most crazy part was waiting for the song to be played. When I read the email I thought somebody was having a wind-up. I thought 'great, I'm going to be on Radio One' but I played it cool - it didn't really sink in. 'I didn't really get excited until I heard it.'

Franko, aka Frankie Dean, who works full-time for BT in Norwich, said he drew inspiration from artists including The Streets, Wiley and Jamie T, through to New Order, Ian Brown and The Cure.

He added: 'I feel my music represents exactly who I am. I am a typical twenty-something working class British man. I rap about what I see and hear in my life.

'My town has had a big inspiration on my lyrics as well as the ups and downs of life in general.

'I work nine to five, enjoy my weekends and like making music. In a way I feel like a boy trying to do his hometown proud.

'Thetford has influenced me a lot and its nice to put it on the map.'

The song was selected after being nominated for the network by new music radio show BBC Introducing in Norfolk.

Franko said the next step was to produce a single.

'Fingers crossed somebody will get in touch about getting me out there, like a manager of a label or something to help me get to the next step,' he said.

'I feel though I've done enough to get the next step myself if I have to though.'
