It has been reported that the cage swing at Castle Park was deliberately damaged by a group of adults.

Chains and a concrete block which holds the equipment in place have been damaged.

Last summer the cage swing also suffered the same vandalism and it had been out of action until it was repaired last week.

Thetford Town Council, which owns the park, spent £1,643.82 on the repairs and they may now have to remove the cage swing altogether.

A spokesman for the council said: 'It is very disappointing when councillors work so hard to get this equipment up and improved and then as soon as the work is done, we have to do it again.

'It is the children that miss out.'

The authority now owns eight play parks in the town.

At Pine Close, Harriet Martineau, Fairfield, Bergamot Drive, Edinburgh Way, Elm Drive and Castle Park, refurbishment works, costing a total of £38,207, have been taking place.

Starting in February, the works - funded with grants from Breckland Council - are due to be finished at the end of this month.

In February this year, a new £40,000 play park was opened on the Redcastle Furze estate.

There had always been a play park on St John's Way but it had fallen into disrepair.

Fundraising by the Redcastle Action Group (RAG) - made up of 10 dedicated people who live on the estate - raised £6,000 to put towards funding the construction of a park.

Their efforts helped to unlock a £13,080 grant from Breckland Council and £20,920 was funded by Thetford Town Council.

If you have any information about the damaged equipment at Castle Park or you see people damaging the equipment call the police or the council.
