A revamped website is presenting evidence from those convinced that our region has been visited by UFOs.

The East Anglia UFO Group (Eaufog), which was founded four years ago and has about 12 active members, describes itself as 'a safe pair of hands to leave your experience, without the fear of ridicule'.

Covering an area that includes Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge-shire, its website has been overhauled ahead of an official re-launch to coincide with World UFO Day on July 2.

Tony Buckingham, the current leader of Eaufog, became interested after an apparent encounter in the early 1970s, and said the website aimed to be a research tool.

In 2012, the Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena (Assap), called a meeting to address an apparent crisis in Ufology – the study of UFOs. It raised concerns that despite decades of searching, researchers had not provided any proof of alien activity and that sightings were in decline.

However, Mr Buckingham said interest in the subject was still growing and that numbers of sightings seemed to rise and fall.

'There seems to be an awful amount of interest in it. When I first had my experience in the 70s there was nothing but ridicule,' he added.

'Now, if I talk to people on their own without friends with them, they are totally fascinated by it, but as soon as you get two people together they can't be seen to be interested in the subject.'
