Something eggstraordinary is on the menu at The Assembly House in Norwich this Easter.

The pastry team at the business have created a new Easter-themed afternoon tea designed to put a spring in everyone’s step.

It follows their magical Rainbow Unicorn Afternoon Tea which was served to more than 4,000 diners last July and the Frightful Fancies Halloween Tea, which haunted the Georgian townhouse’s restaurant in October.

The Easter afternoon tea will run from March 28 to April 8.

Head pastry chef Mark Mitson, who has worked in various top London pastry kitchens including at Claridge’s, has transformed The Assembly House’s signature Gateau Opera cake into a pastel rainbow for the occasion and made his own Crème Egg with mascarpone cheesecake, mango and passion fruit coulis.

He’s also created a pistachio Easter Bunny macaron and dipped chocolate mousse in a hard ‘egg’ of chocolate for Peter Rabbit’s Temptation (a sugar carrot in chocolate soil).

Tea will be served with a selection of finger sandwiches plus the new club sandwich brioche roll and a warm three cheese toastie served with local tomato chutney.

Each guest will also be served warm scones, one fruit with Norfolk strawberry jam and clotted cream, the other a cheese, Colman’s Mustard and chive scone served with butter.

All cakes are gluten-free and suitable for vegetarians, all cheese is rennet-free and sandwiches can be adapted to be either gluten-free or vegetarian.

Chef director at The Assembly House, Richard Hughes, said that the Easter tea was the first of several themed teas planned this year: “We are very lucky to have an incredibly talented pastry team who can bring the ideas we have to life. This is the kind of tea you’d expect to find in London right here in Norfolk and we are blown away by the response we’ve had from customers – we hope people will love this new tea just as much as our last two.”

The tea will be served from 12 noon until 5pm every day during the themed event and will cost £20.95 for one or £40 for two.

An under-12s version, the Mini Bunnies Eggstraordinary Afternoon Tea, will be available for £12.95.
