Tharston man chooses Banham Zoo’s meerkat enclosure to pop the question

When Adam Lock was comparing the market for the perfect place to propose to his girlfriend, he found a zoo's meerkat enclosure to be 'seemply' the best.

The 42-year-old, from Tharston, chose to pop the question to his girlfriend Karina Large, 30, among the meerkats at Banham Zoo because the African mammal, famed for the Compare the Market TV commercials and the 'seemples' catchphrase, is her favourite animal.

Mr Lock said: 'She was quite speechless and quite emotional. She has got a massive love for meerkats and thinks they are cute.'

Miss Large said: 'I thought it was lovely and very unusual.'

Banham Zoo, near Attleborough, has also hosted wedding ceremonies and receptions, giving happy couples the chance to feed the giraffes and penguins and other animals.

People can find out more about the unusual opportunities available at the EDP Wedding Show this month where there will also be more than 140 other businesses on hand.

The EDP Wedding Show is at the Norfolk Showground on February 25 from 10am until 5pm, and February 26 from 10am to 4pm. Tickets cost 6, 10 for two, or 16 for four. Visit or call 01603 772175.
