Police said the victim was walking alone in Church Lanes and heading towards the town centre at about 4pm on Friday when he was approached by the men, who were aged about 20.
They didn't say anything to him but one grabbed the boy while the other searched through his pockets and stole his wallet which contained 200 in cash and cards.
The robbers fled the scene and ran towards the college.
The boy was not hurt.
Police want to hear from anyone who may have seen the incident or noticed two men acting suspiciously in the area at the time.
The men are described as white and one was of slim build, 5ft 4 tall, wearing black tracksuit bottoms and hooded top, possibly grey.
