A woman has been arrested on suspicion of wasting police time after claiming she had been assaulted in Thetford.
The woman, in her late teens, called police at around 10.30pm last night, Wednesday, claiming she had been mugged in Canterbury Way.
A spokesman for Norfolk Police said the claims were thought to be a hoax and that the woman has been arrested.
A message on Facebook warning young women not to walk in the Abbey Estate was sent out following the alleged hoax call.
She remains in custody.
