Witnesses are being sought after a 16-year-old girl was robbed in Halcyon Crescent in Lowestoft.

The robbery happened about 11.05am on Monday morning (January 25), as the teenager walked close to the Hill Road junction. She became aware of a bicycle behind her and a female voice spoke to her.

She turned to see a young woman – thought to be in her late teens to early 20s – who is described as white with a spotty complexion, of skinny build and wearing dark eyeliner, a black coat with the hood up and a light coloured fur trim, on an orange/red bike.

A police spokesman said: 'The woman asked for a cigarette and the teenager handed her one but the woman then made a grab for the 16-year-old's bag and pulled it, causing the strap to break. A brief struggle ensued with the teenager ending up on the ground and the woman cycling off along Hill Road with the bag.'

A black purse with white stripes, containing bank and store cards, and a phone charger were among the items in the bag.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have been in the area around this time or anyone who may recognise the description of the young woman involved.

? Information should be directed to Lowestoft CID on 101, quoting crime number 14087/16.
