Villagers look set to be connected to hyperfast broadband thanks to volunteers who have braved the elements over the last 19 months to lay kilometres of glass fibre optic cable.
The Tivetshall steering group of the B4RN project, a not-for-profit community scheme to connect rural villages to 1,000 mbps broadband, has reached a milestone with a connection cabinet installed.
A core team of 30 local volunteers has been digging trenches and laying cables with the help of B4RN's engineers to connect the main cable. It has now reached the Tivetshalls where home and business will get the chance to connect to some of the UK's fastest rural broadband speeds.
Paul Playford, of Tivetshall Steering Group, said: "The network extends from Scole through Thelveton and now to the Tivetshalls. It has been a long journey and many people have been understandably sceptical but for the Tivetshalls it is now becoming a reality.
"The project is now entering such an exciting phase but still a lot of work to do to enable actual fibre to each property with the help of volunteers and skilled ground workers digging trenching and placing fibre ducting, inspection chambers and crossing ditches."
