Norwich Science Festival will take place from October 19 and 27 and the theme this year will be 'our future world', exploring how developments in science and technology will shape our future, as well as what people can do to help make it sustainable.

It kicks off on Friday, October 19, with a day dedicated to celebrating our oceans, seas and rivers – from aquatic wildlife to our responsibility to protect the marine environment.

Norwich Science Festival is co-ordinated by The Forum, with headline sponsorship from Anglian Water, and takes place in multiple venues across Norwich.

Last year, more than 82,000 visits were made to the festival's events and hands-on activities.

Natalie Bailey, Norwich Science Festival producer, said: 'We're excited to bring the festival back for its third year, and are busy programming some really fantastic events for everyone to enjoy.

'We're particularly looking forward to the first day which will highlight our amazing oceans and rivers, their diverse ecology and what we can all do to help protect them.'

Other themed days focus on nature, physics, astronomy and space, engineering, technology, chemistry, health and the human body, a showcase of science from Norwich Research Park, and a family day at Norwich Cathedral.

Events to look forward to include Bakineering in Space, with The Great British Bake Off finalist Andrew Smyth – where he mixes baking and space, looking at what connects the humble meringue with getting astronauts home safely from orbit; Gastronaut Stefan Gates' The Utterly Revolting Science Show, and Scottish wildlife cameraman and photographer Doug Allan, best known for his work in polar regions and underwater for programmes such as The Blue Planet, Planet Earth, Life, and Frozen Planet.
