Teams are needed to help this year's Hilgay raft race go with a splash.

The charity event was hoping to attract more than 20 teams who take to the water and raise money for good causes.

Ali Dent, one of the organisers, is appealing for more raft crews to come forward for this year's race which will take to the water on Sunday, July 17.

Local businesses are also needed for sponsorship to help the race raise as much money as possible for charity.

The Hilgay race has become a permanent fixture in the village's summer diary and anyone who would like to take part, or who can offer sponsorship, can contact Mr Dent on 01366 387686.

He recently raised 3,250 for Help for Heroes with another of his twice-yearly book sales in the village which attract hundreds of visitors.

The sales have been running for around 30 years and have raised more than 100,000 for a variety of charities.

The next sale will be raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and donated books, along with bric-a-brac, can be left with Mr Dent at his shop.

'We don't take video tapes, but have jigsaws, bric-a-brac and books of course,' he said.

'We usually raise anything up to 5,000 and over the years it must be 100,000 or more,' said Mr Dent, who added that he was grateful to local company Bearts which loaned a lorry to help with the sale.
