Players wore black armbands as a mark of respect for a popular football referee known for his good humour and dedication to the sport.

Steve Boddy, from Littlefields in Dereham, died on September 12 after a battle with esophageal cancer, aged 62.

He had a soft spot for Longham FC and his daughter, Catherine Boddy, attended their game away at UEA on Saturday, September 15, where she was presented with a bouquet of flowers by the team.

Longham FC assistant manager Jake Watts said: 'We presented her with flowers and we also wore black armbands as a mark of respect for Steve. We also held a minute's applause in honour of Steve.'

Mr Boddy had lived in Dereham since 1979 and was caretaker and transport manager at the Dereham Community Hub for 21 years. He was on the committee of the Central and South Norfolk League and he refereed across Norfolk.
