A redundant red telephone box is set to be restored to its former glory after a parish council bought it for £1.

Swanton Morley Parish Council decided to take ownership of the deteriorating kiosk outside The Angel pub after it was considered to be 'eyesore' in the village.

According to BT, the call box had just £1.80–worth of use over a whole year, and it was thought the familiar sight could be put to better use.

Ideas for the fading red kiosk include turning it into a village information point, or possibly somewhere to store a defibrillator.

Parish clerk Faye LeBon said: 'We thought if BT didn't want it, we'd take it on and do something with it. It looks a bit shabby at the moment but with a bit of sand-blasting and a lick of paint, it will be brought back to its former glory.'

Anyone who has any ideas for the telephone box should contact the parish council on 01362 637166.
