A south Norfolk headteacher has been returned to her post following a two-month suspension.

Jan Hunt, of Diss High School, was welcomed back las Wednesday after she was suspended in October for an unspecified period pending an internal disciplinary investigation.

Pupils and parents were left in the dark as to why the action had been taken and the school remains tight-lipped over the details of any allegations.

However, a letter sent at the time of the suspension said that the investigation, led by Norfolk County Council, related to 'management procedures' and not the quality of the education provided at the school.

Since Dr Hunt's absence, the school has been led by acting headteacher Cherry Crowley – the former headteacher at Flegg High School in Martham.

In a statement, the Rev Tony Billett, chairman of governors at Diss High School, said: 'I am pleased to be able to say that Jan Hunt has returned to the school.

'The county council has now finished its investigation into specific management issues at the school. The details of the investigation remain confidential, but I would like to reassure parents that the matters have been resolved and Dr Hunt has the full support of our governing body.

'Dr Hunt has led considerable improvement at the school and is well respected by staff and students. We look forward to welcoming her back and supporting her in her ambition to further raise levels of achievement for our students.

'I would like to thank Cherry Crowley for her commitment and support in leading the school over the past few weeks. Our teaching and support staff have also worked incredibly hard to ensure that the education of our students has not been affected. I would also like to thank parents and carers for their ongoing patience and support.'

Jan Hunt added: 'I am pleased to be back at school and look forward to continuing to drive improvement in the achievements of our students. I would like to thank staff, students and parents for their ongoing support.'

Dr Hunt replaced Stuart Ballantyne as headteacher of Diss High School in 2008. The Walcot Road school teaches more than 1,100 pupils aged 11 to 18.
