A paediatric orthopaedic surgeon and a former European champion boxer have been recognised for their Fitness Boxing initiative.
Dr Rachael Hutchinson and boxer Jon Thaxton have been running the programme for a year and have already seen huge success, with the classes improving the physical, mental and social wellbeing of participants.
The sessions are based on boxercise, which involves adapted high-intensity circuit training which can be done standing or seated, accommodating wheelchair users.
Dr Hutchinson said: 'We are delighted to see our work in supporting children and adults with disabilities recognised. Strength and aerobic fitness is so important for people with physical disabilities as they have to work harder than their peer group.
'We have also seen huge benefits in self-confidence and concentration with all involved.'
