Sun shines on Carnival Day in Cromer

It has long since been established as the biggest day of the year in Cromer.

But, according to the town's Mayor John Frosdick, this summer's Carnival Day was without doubt the best one yet.

Thousands of visitors converged on the seaside resort for the annual festivities - one of the highlights of a week-long programme of events.

Among the attractions on Wednesday was a display by The Red Arrows - the RAF's aerobatic display team; with crowds of onlookers lining the promenade to get the best view.

On the Carnival field in Runton Road, there was a stunt show, falconry and dog displays, as well as live music.

And the day was brought to a close with Cromer Grand Carnival Parade, following the judging of the floats and fancy dress.

Reflecting on the events, Cromer Mayor John Frosdick said: 'It has been really good. This is my year as Mayor and seeing everybody enjoying themselves, the number of people up here today is amazing.

'I've been back in Cromer 17 years now and I've seen nearly every Carnival and to me I think this is the best one yet.'

Cromer Carnival got underway with the Crowning of the Carnival Queen, Phoebe Chambers, on Sunday and culminates with an illuminated procession and fireworks display on Thursday.

The Carnival Queen is supported by Senior Attendant Victoria Craske, as well as Junior Attendants Summer Rivett and Paige Lewis. Prince Connor Reynolds and Princess Isla Harwood complete the royal party.

Gary Dickenson, President of Cromer and District Chamber of Trade and Commerce, was among the guests at this year's event.

He is supporting a joint initiative, Cromer 365, between the chamber, Cromer Pier and the town council to encourage more people to visit the town all year round.

'It's always wonderful to see thousands of people come to Cromer to enjoy the Carnival and spend a bit of money in the town.' he said. 'It's fantastic that this town can put on such a huge event like this, an event that I think many other towns would be quite jealous of.

'Cromer is always going to be a seaside tourist town, we are doing what we can do extend that throughout the whole year. We're encouraging people to come to Cromer, even when it's raining - have a walk on the beach or a walk on the pier - enjoy that moment, enjoy that time.'
