The 90-year-old man who was found with serious injuries at the Suffolk home where his wife’s lifeless body was discovered, has also died.

Suffolk police confirmed this morning that the man, who has been named locally as John Hewitson, had died in hospital.

Mr Hewitson had been found with head injuries at his house in Acheson Way, Aldeburgh at around 10.40am on Monday.

Emergency services attended the property following reports of an unconscious woman.

Police, firefighters and ambulance staff arrived to find the body of a woman aged in her 50s, who is understood to be Mr Hewitson’s wife, Connie Hewitson.

People living in Acheson Way said Mrs Hewitson had been a carer for her husband, who had dementia and was partially blind.

One woman said Mrs Hewitson had been “absolutely devoted” to her husband.

“She was extremely kind to everyone in the close,” she added.

“Lots of people knew her.”

“She made it her job every Sunday evening to put the bins out for everyone. She was a really nice lady. I will miss her terribly.”

It is believed the couple met at a Chinese restaurant in Woodbridge where Mrs Hewitson, who is originally from the Far East, worked at the time.

Suffolk police said both deaths were being treated as unexplained.

“Formal identification of the two people has yet to take place but next of kin have been contacted by police,” a police spokesman said.

“A Home Office post-mortem examination for the woman is due to take place today Thursday, October 18.”

Witnesses or anybody who has any information are asked to call police on 101 quoting CAD 118 of October 15.
