Everything from Harley-Davidsons to Hondas, Yamahas, Triumphs and Indians were on show in the town's Market Place today (Sunday, April 21), as biking enthusiasts from far and wide gathered to show off their rides and admire others'.

Peter Edge, who organised the event as a way of fundraising for North Walsham Cottage Hospital and the charity Disabled Ride, said he was thrilled with how it went.

Mr Edge said: 'There's a good crowd here and people have come from all over. We'll definitely do it again next year.'

The show started on Easter Saturday at the football club, and live music from bands The Blackjacks and the Grease Moneys was organised. Town mayor Barry Hester said though turnout to the gig was poor, the spectacle of hundreds of people and bikes in the town centre on the Sunday more than made up for it.

Mr Hester they would consider hosting the event at Memorial Park next year to allow more people to take part.

Among the entrants in a bike and trike competition was Andre Heal, of North Walsham, who rode his BMW R71 motorbike with sidecar, complete with mounted machine-gun.

Mr Heal said the bike had been built prior to the Second World War. He said: 'Before the war BMW had a factory in Russia as part of the non-aggression treaty between them and the Germans, and they also had a factory in China.

'This was built in China, bit I don't know exactly when, and it was imported to the UK in 1963.

'I've done it up like the Communist partisans of Yugoslavia, just because no-one else was doing that sort of thing.'

Also enjoying the day was Vic Price, of Bacton, who rode a bright red trike, decorated with skulls, which he built himself using parts from an Toyota MR2 sports car.

Mr Price, who named the ride after his dog Timmy, who he found on a beach in Cyprus, said: 'It took me about 14 months to make. I've taken it all over, but I haven't been abroad with it - yet.'
