A retired RAF warrant officer died after suffering a fall at a recycling centre, an inquest heard.
John Buckle, 77, from Rivermead, Stalham, was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge after the incident on March 8.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital two days later, today's Norwich inquest was told.
Norfolk coroner William Armstrong said that Mr Buckle fell on the steps to one of the skips at the recycling centre in North Walsham.
A CT scan revealed that he had received a traumatic brain injury, which was not suitable for surgical intervention.
A doctor at Addenbrooke's reported that the cause of death was a traumatic brain injury due to a fall. The inquest was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
