Firefighters battled to control a blaze covering a square kilometre of forest in Thetford last night.

A misting unit from the town and a water carrier from Hethersett were called to the incident shortly after 7.45pm on Monday.

They used hoses to extinguish the blaze, and had the fire under control by 8.42pm.

A fire service spokesman said the fire was started accidentally.
