Sponsors of the Stars of Norfolk and Waveney Awards have given their reasons for getting involved as the deadline for entries approaches.

The event is designed to recognise the often unappreciated heroes of Norfolk and Waveney’s communities, who are nominated by friends, colleagues, and family.

Organisations across the region have stepped up to sponsor the 15 categories.

A new category this year is the Inspirational award. Victoria Schofield, area manager of Norfolk at cottages.com said: “The awards recognise the region’s many unsung heroes, and we are pleased to present a brand new Inspirational award for 2018.”

Cllr Sam Chapman-Allen, Breckland Council’s deputy leader, said: “We’re delighted to once again be sponsoring the awards. I had the honour of attending last year’s event and heard some truly inspirational stories of heroism, teamwork and selflessness and I have no doubt there will be some wonderful examples this year too.

“As the sponsor of the Volunteer of the Year Award I’m pleased that we are able to take the opportunity to recognise the big difference that local volunteers make to the lives of other people.”

Several other district councils including North Norfolk chose to sponsor the awards.

John Lee, leader of North Norfolk District Council, which is sponsoring the Team of the Year award, said: “Awards like this allow us to say thank you to a whole range of people who give time and effort to their communities, often unrecognised.

“Whether those people are sports people, carers, emergency services workers or community workers, and whether they are individuals or teams – I would encourage you to put forward your nominations.”

An Adnams spokesperson said: “Adnams is incredibly proud to sponsor the Fire Service Person of the Year Award.

“It’s everyday acts of kindness, bravery and complete selflessness that can make such a huge difference to people’s lives. It’s wonderful to be able to recognise outstanding individuals who make such an effort to support their local community.”

This year’s awards will be held at The Halls on St Andrew’s St in Norwich on December 5.

The application deadline is October 30 and the judging process will take place throughout November.
