Spitting Image creator Roger Law is putting some of his ceramics up for sale at an art exhibition which begins today and will raise money for Wells Community Hospital.

The exhibition is being held at Burnham Overy Staithe Village Hall and it runs until Friday.

Mr Law, who has been making pots for years and has been working in China, said, in a recent interview with the London Evening Standard: I am trying to put right Thatcher's legacy. I made the decision to sell for the first time because I want to save the local hospital, Wells Community Hospital. The NHS is not what it used to be. Thatcher made this mess and now she can't remember a damn thing about how much she has hurt people.

'Also, I am not getting any younger and I might need the hospital one day. I have had a house here for ages but I have only just come back because I have been living in Australia and working in China. Now the locals cannot afford to live here because the rich people have pushed up the prices but at least I can help the hospital.'

The exhibition, called EDGE, features the work of more than 70 artists, designers and creators from East Anglia.

TV celebrity Anneka Rice will be auctioning various works at 7pm on the Sunday.

The event has been created by local artist Lucy Geering, a Norfolk woman who left London two years ago to re-train as an art and literacy teacher.

She said: 'EDGE will be a local version of the Royal Academy of Art's Summer Show, the commission from each individual sale will go to a local charity. The 70 exhibitors are all creative people who live, work, spend time in or are inspired by the area. They will each be submitting up to three pieces of work.

'As well as well-known full-time artists, there are so many art school graduates who continue making work around other commitments such as family and jobs.

'East Anglia has a rich vein of locally-grown artistic talent, with graduates from The Slade, Central St. Martins and Goldsmiths, and tutors from The Royal Academy, The Royal College of Art, and Norwich University College of the Arts, living, working and practising in this part of Britain.

'As well as Roger Law, we will have work from Sir Nicholas Grimshaw PRA, Helen and Colin David of English Eccentrics, Rebecca Lloyd, Chris and Hannah Hann, Diana and Zuleika Parkin, Raffaella Barker and Anneka Rice.' The exhibition is open daily 10am to 5.30pm. Entry is free. Proceeds are for the Wells Community Hospital Trust.
