Hundreds of worshippers will gather to remember the true meaning of Easter at United Services.
Christians Together in Lowestoft and District will join forces as annual events are held on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
A walk of witness will bring together Christians from all denominations across the town as a Procession of the Cross takes place through the town centre today.
Meet at 10.15am for a short service at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Gordon Road, before the walk commences via Surrey Street and London Road North where the cross will be raised outside United Reformed Church.
The United Service of Prayer at the church is due to start at 11am with a welcome and opening prayer from the Major Jennifer Barwise, of South Lowestoft Salvation Army Corps. The host preacher is the Rev Jon Sermon.
A Sunrise Service will also be held this Sunday on Easter Day at Ness Point. It begins at 5.45am, and will include an address by the guest preacher, the Rev Eoin Buchanan, minister at St Peter and St John in Kirkley. There will be refreshments, including hot cross buns, offered afterwards courtesy of Christ Church hall.
A spokesman for Christians Together in Lowestoft and District said: 'The United Services have been planned by workshop committees from different churches and representatives of the churches in the district will be leading the readings and prayers. We hope for a good attendance especially as the weather forecast is so encouraging this year and all are welcome. I have been attending the sunrise service annually like many others for at least 30 years, and it was going on well before that – arranged initially by the Council of Churches and then by the new ecumenical body Churches Together in Britain and Ireland from 1987, of which we in Christians Together in Lowestoft and District are the local group.
