Norfolk MP Liz Truss grabs selfie with Taylor Swift

In the latest of a growing number of social media posts outlining her life away from parliament, Liz Truss, MP for South West Norfolk, posted a selfie with pop star Taylor Swift at the after show party of the glittering blockbuster event.

The image, posted in the early hours of Monday morning, included the caption 'Look what you made me do, Taylor', referencing one of the pop star's songs.

Ms Truss had been discussing her music taste with some fellow attendees of the event and even mentioned her love of the Pennsylvania-born star.

Not aware the musician was also in attendance, the politician was then introduced to the star and asked to take a selfie.

The pop sensation was at the ceremony in support of her boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, who appeared in the best British film The Favourite alongside Norfolk's own Olivia Colman, who won best actress.

The pop star actually visited the city in 2015 for Radio 1's Big Weekend, where she played a set to more than 10,000 people.

For Ms Truss, it is not the first time she has taken to social media in a less than traditional form.

In the past she has posted Whitney Houston quotes to show her support for certain economic policies, pictures from inside the House of Commons chamber, and pictures of her black cat, Gladstone.

As one of the least formal politicians who use social media, Ms Truss, along with Sir Nicholas Soames, MP for Mid Sussex who uses multiple-word hashtags, has gained a cult following on Twitter and Instagram.

Her popularity on social media began following a speech to the Conservative party conference in 2014 about cheese which went viral while she was environment secretary.

Since then, she has embraced the platforms, gaining more than 5,000 followers on Instagram and more than 50,000 on Twitter.

She told the i newspaper in 2018 she has now learned to 'embrace the meme' and said she 'just decided that I was going to say what I thought'.
