Community groups across south Norfolk are getting ready to take on cancer in a very British way - with a cuppa, a few biscuits and a friendly chat.

Venues across the region will host World's Biggest Coffee Morning events on Friday, September 29 to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The newly-opened Roots Community Cafe is among those taking part with an event from 10am to 1pm at Wymondham Baptist Church.

Eve Cooper, from the cafe, said she hoped everyone would consider coming along to a coffee morning event and help to beat cancer.

She said: 'We all believe that Macmillan is a worthy cause because of the amazing work they do to support people who are going through the life-changing cancer diagnosis.

'By raising the profile of the charity through selling cakes and donating the profits it may well help someone who is facing this disease to realise there is help out there.

'Unfortunately cancer is so common now that most people will have had some contact with it and many people value the work charities like Macmillan do.'

The Roots Community Cafe opened two weeks ago and is intended to be a warm, welcoming place for members of the community to find conversation and encouragement.

World's Biggest Coffee Morning events will also take place at 12 Oak Tree Park in Attleborough from 10am, Carleton House in East Carleton from 2.30pm to 4.30pm and 3 Meadow Cottages, Brick Kiln Road, Mulbarton from 10am to 1pm.

Wymondham Lions are having an event at 16 Vimy Drive starting at 10am and Howards Estate Agents in Long Stratton will host theirs from 9am to 5.30pm.

Coffee mornings will take place in Diss from 10am to midday at Thatchers Needle pub and at 1 Weavers Court and Steeles Law Solicitors at 3 St Nicholas Street.

There will also be a coffee morning at Haines Watts at 8 Hopper Way, Diss.

Kingsley Healthcare in Hoxne will host an event from 3pm. The GWC equestrian centre in Wingfield near Diss will have their coffee morning a day early on Thursday, September 28 from 10am.
