A night of music in which people can show off their vocal talents at a Diss pub will be raising funds for seriously ill children.

The Greyhound pub in St Nicholas Street is hosting an open mic and buskers session on Sunday, December 20 with local musicians taking part.

The Jeep and Friends Christmas Special event runs from 5pm until late and has been organised by Greyhound regular and musician Peter 'Jeep' Rickman and Suffolk musician Reg 'Dixie' Dixon.

It is the fourth such open mic event to be held at the pub and this year's session will again be raising funds for East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH).

Last year's open mic music session raised £420 for EACH and previous events have supported the Philippines hurricane appeal and children in Syria.

December 20's event will also see performances by The Checks, Will Lancaster, Penniless Goats, the Fair Green Band, David McKaig and Poseidon's Fury, with special guests also planned to appear.

Mr Rickman, 51 and who cites his musical influences as Jimi Hendrix, the Plasmatics and Donovan, hopes people will enjoy the chance to sing at the open mic session.

He said: 'There will be a good cross selection of musicians and performers and it will be a lot fun.

'We are going to offer entertainment and fun and of course anyone is welcome to have a go.

'And it is all for a good local cause.'

Mr Rickman and Mr Dixon, 60 and who is from Dennington, are veterans of the local music scene and have played in bands together, leading to the idea of setting up the annual open mic nights at the Greyhound.

They wanted to thank the landlords of the Greyhound for their support in organising the fundraising event.
