Shoppers at Wymondham's Waitrose supermarket have had the chance to learn about fostering at a special in-store event.

Peter Norman and Valencia Ruiters from Wymondham-based Nexus Fostering had a stand at the store on May 24 to raise awareness of the need for more foster families in the region. Mr Norman said: 'Ideally, we'd like to recruit people who have more than one spare bedroom to enable sibling groups to stay together or for carers to look after more than one child.

'There is a huge need for foster carers for young people aged 10 to 18 and also for carers for parent and child placements. Foster carers play an amazing role in children's lives, breaking the cycle of abuse and neglect.'

Ms Ruiters said: 'There are over 1,000 vulnerable children and young people in care in Norfolk, and, sadly, the numbers are on the increase'
