After a 14-year career that has taken him around the world, a notorious Norfolk wrestler is hanging up his orange leotard.

Mike 'The Bulk' Waters made his name for 11 years as one half of the tag team The UK Pitbulls, fighting alongside his big brother 'Big Dave' Waters.

In the last three years, he has flown solo, since Dave's knees collapsed during a strongman contest, leaving him unable to fight.

But now Mike is calling it a day - citing the increasing strain on his body from scores of shows each year.

The retirement will leave a big hole for fans, who have been used to seeing 33-stone Mike during a career that saw the UK Pitbulls scoop scores of trophies and fight with many of their wrestling heroes.

The 33-year-old, from High Street, Sheringham, said: 'For the last few years I have been on my own, and it hasn't been the same without Dave. I've also had more and more aches and pains after bouts and it's a good time to stop.'

The final show is on September 3 at Heacham Public Hall, where Mike will be fighting his former wrestling student Jo FX, at a bout promoted by Fallen Star Promotions.

Mike, who is married to Sheena, said: 'Dave and I used to wrestle four times a week, sometimes more, and it takes its toll. When my brother retired I gave up for a bit, and I'm a part-timer now. I've decided to hang up my boots.'

Mike said he 'fell into' wrestling, having set his heart on fame and fortune in the music world. And he added: 'It's been brilliant. It has taken me all over the world.'

Mike is now looking forward to focusing on his other career as a drummer in the band The Pocket Godzillas, including an appearance at next month's Norfolk Spectacular at the Norfolk Showground.

And he said: 'I think I will miss wrestling and I won't miss wrestling. Unlike Dave, who had to give up, it's good that I've got a choice.

'I got married two years ago and I'm a family man. That's more important to me than wrestling is.'
